League in Need - Season in Danger

No league, no soccer!

Although the headline may sound dramatic, it is completely accurate.  The Valley United Soccer League, made up of clubs from Deep River, Petawawa, Pembroke, Opeongo and Renfrew, held its Annual General Meeting on December 3.  The positions of President and Vice President were open and there were no nominations.  At a minimum, the role of the President must be filled or the league will not be able to run for the 2020 season.  A call is being sent out to all league club members in hopes of finding two people to step in.

Per VUSL's constitution, duties are:

President

Except:
      1. as provided for in the Dispute Resolution Policy of the OSA, and
      2. where the President delegates the responsibility to another person,
the President shall preside at all general meetings of the League and of the Board of Directors. The President shall be ex officio a member of all committees, except any nominations committee; shall appoint all chairs of standing and special committees subject to ratification by the Board; coordinate all duties of the Board, committees, staff; and shall be the spokesperson for the League.

Vice President

The Vice President shall act in the absence of the President and shall have other powers as assigned by the Board.

In layman's terms, the president chairs meetings (at least 4 per year), makes sure deadlines are met, and that everyone is doing and is supported in their jobs.  In addition to the President and Vice President, the league has a Secretary, Treasurer, an administrator overseeing referee reports and standings and a scheduler.

The Vice President fills in for the President when needed.

If you are interested in learning more or volunteering to fill one of these positions, please email Cheryl Smith and you will be given further information.

Unfortunately, much like "no coach, no team," this is "no league, no soccer."
